First National Brigade
In
2003-04 a new 3,700-man brigade was raised at Kisangani, with
elements from the previously warring DRC factions. Belgium has
the primary responsibility for training. This was the first
brigade of 18 in the new army.
Note on FARDC (Forces Armed Republic Democratic Congo, the
French acronym for the DRC army) brigade numbers
Please keep in mind the brigade numbers below are the
integrated brigades. This does not mean that all other FADRC
brigades have been demobilized. For example, in an operation
against the forces of Laurent Nakunda in the fall of 2008, the
81st and 82nd Brigades were identified
along with the 6th and 14th.
