First National Brigade

 

In 2003-04 a new 3,700-man brigade was raised at Kisangani, with elements from the previously warring DRC factions. Belgium has the primary responsibility for training. This was the first brigade of 18 in the new army.

 

Note on FARDC (Forces Armed Republic Democratic Congo, the French acronym for the DRC army) brigade numbers

 

Please keep in mind the brigade numbers below are the integrated brigades. This does not mean that all other FADRC brigades have been demobilized. For example, in an operation against the forces of Laurent Nakunda in the fall of 2008, the 81st and 82nd Brigades were identified along with the 6th and 14th.
