National Army Formations

 

With the exception of the new integrated brigade, all other National Army formations are former government or rebel formations in place. Many have been demobilized and integrated into the new national army.

A fifth major opposition group, in Orientale Province, has no formal military organization and operates on tribal lines.

 

UN Forces

 

Approximately 16,000 in 4 brigades MONUC has asked for 24,000 troops, but a worldwide shortage of peacekeeping forces is creating problems with the increase.
