Deployment

 

The major bases of the CIVIL GUARD, in its military function, are at San José, Los Chiles, Ciudad Quesada, La Cruz and Golfito. The Civil Guard is however deployed throughout the country. The major troop concentrations are at San José, Los Chiles, Ciudad Quesada, La Cruz and Sixaloa. 

 

The capital, San José, houses the national headquarters of the GUARDIA CIVIL, the PRESIDENTIAL GUARD and the over strength 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd rifle companies.

 

The province of Alajuela has its HQ at the town of Alajuela and contains both the ALAJUELA Rifle Company and the Northern Frontier Command, with the HQ and 1^st 

 

Company of the RELAMPAGO battalion at los Chiles; the 2^nd Company of the same unit at Upala and its Support and Replacement Company at Quesada.

 

The province of Cartago has its capital at the city of Cartago which is also the headquarters of the CARTAGO Rifle Company.

 

The province of Puntarenas has its capital at the city of Puntarenas which houses the HQs of both the PUNTARENAS Rifle Company and of the GOLFITO NAVAL DETACHMENT which is in turn supported by a Rifle Company which may be considered as the nearest Costa Rican equivalent to a Marine Corps.
