Note on Reserves
The Army
Reserves has 10 Canadian Brigade Groups, organized in each of the 4 Land
Force Area Commands. Most Militia Infantry units are Light Infantry
using motorized transport instead of armored. Militia Armored Units are
squadron size using the Cougar variant APC and the Iltis transport.
Their primary role is armored reconnaissance though anti-tank (manual
transport or vehicle mounted) duties are part of the training. The
standard Field gun for the Militia is the C1 105mm Howitzer though
Reserve Air Defense batteries are trained with the 35mm twin guns and
the Javelin missile.
Canadian Rangers
144 patrols;
4000 personnel. The mission of the Canadian Rangers provide a military
presence in those sparsely settled northern, coastal and isolated areas
of Canada that cannot conveniently or economically be provided for by
other components of the Canadian Forces.
