Organization

The Nigerian army has a fondness for changing division designations, making tracking a difficult process. From limited information received, we assume that the Nigerian Army has reversed a long process of reduction and is increasing its size again.

In 1990, Nigerian Army divisions had 3 or even 4 combat brigades; some sources still employ those figures. There has been a reduction since that time.

The United States trained 5 Nigerian battalions for Africa peacekeeping duties.
