TNI-AD has plans to go back
to the original 17 KODAM, after reducing to 10. As of now two
additional KODAM are operational, for a total of 12.
3 regional commands have
been revived. 22 new KOREM are to be set up.
The Indonesian Army, the land component of
the Indonesian Armed Forces, has an estimated strength of 310,000
regular personnel and some 4000,000 reserves, and comprises of the
headquarters and associated units, the military area commands, a
strategic reserve command, KOSTRAD, a Special Forces command,
KOPASSUS, and other formations and units.
KOSTRAD
KOSTRAD
(Komando Cadagan Strategis Angkatan Darat) is the Indonesian Army’s
Strategic Reserve Command.
KOSTRAD is a Corps level command which has up to 35,000
troops. It also supervises operational readiness among all commands
and conduct defense and security operations at the strategic level
in accordance with policies of the TNI commander.
As a
corps, KOSTRAD is commanded by a Panglima (Commander-in-Chief),
usually a lieutenant general and he reports directly to the
Commander-in-Chief of the Tentara Nasional Indonesia (Indonesian
National Armed Forces), and is also charged to lead the conduct of
combat operations, called defense and security operations.
Currently, KOSTRAD has a strength of 35,000 to 40,000 personnel and
its primary components consist of two infantry divisions.
