2005-2020 plan

 

·         The Army will have two types of units - active and mobilized (e.g. to be Mobilized in emergency. Existing semi-active units disbanded.

  • Active units with a high level of manning will have most of the tanks, APCs, AIFVs, artillery etc. so they can be ready to respond to threats or commitments.
  • There will be no mobilized unit equipped with main weapons systems

(main battle tanks, Armored vehicles, howitzers and other modern technology systems and means, which demand continuous and high level maintenance ).

Immediate Reaction Forces: 100%

Rest of the Special Forces (not part of the IRF) 90 - 95%

Mechanized Infantry units, Armored units and Army Aviation units: 75 - 80%

Infantry Units and other units 65 - 70%

 

Army Structure 2005-2020

 

It is estimated that the structural changes the Hellenic Army will follow under the

doctrine of Forces Structure 2005 - 2020 will end in the following structure:

Retained to monitor the borders from Epirus to eastern Macedonia (from where D Army Corps takes over). In case of war it will be mobilized to secure the northern borders. Later on (not specified when) it will become a mobilized formation ( i.e. not an active one ) and will function in peace as the divisional-sized Western Macedonia Area Military Command Its structure will be the following
