Plan 2015

Was apparently scrapped in favor of much deeper and more rapid cuts in the force.

Army Aviation (Heeresfliegertruppe)

Units

6 regiments (excluding training units)

2 medium (CH-53)

2 utility (UH-1D)

2 attack helicopter (Bo-105P, Tiger replacing)

2 training centers (regiment equivalent)

1 trials squadron

Inventory

8 PAH-2

8 NH-90

22 EC-135

24 Bo-105M

100 Bo105P Anti-Tank

80 UH-1D

80 CH-53G (modernizing to keep in service to 2030)[2]

20 CH-53GS (ditto; CSAR and special operations version)

Under delivery

72 PAH-2 (Tiger UHT, replace Bo105)

Order was cut from 212. The order of 80 is composed of:

            40 anti-tank

            40 escort

72 NH-90 (replace UH-1H) Original order was for 134;  cut to 80; UH-1s will be kept flying till

sufficient replacements are available. As the NH-90 is a heavier helicopter will greater troop carrying capability, presumably replacement will not be on a 1-1 basis.

All Bo105M to phase out; the Bo105P is to convert to LOH configuration.

Planned TO

Very approximately:

Medium helicopter regiments TO 36 CH-53

Attack helicopter regiments TO 40 PAH-2

Transport Helicopter Regiments TO 48 NH-90

[1] Reduce to 4 battalions 2015

[2] The Germany army received 112 CH-53s; it is remarkable in 30 years only 12 have been lost.

[1] The German Army uses “Air Mechanized” for attack helicopter units
